The second in our series of FPM Roadshows, the Peterborough event got off to a great start with practice managers catching up over coffee last Friday morning, followed by a day of presentations, exhibitors, competitions, one-to-one HR surgeries and networking over lunch.
Practice Managers in attendance commented, “I enjoyed hearing how others work and deal with different situations,” also adding “the tips to be outstanding were very useful.”
Similarly to the roadshow in Birmingham the previous week, First Practice Management (FPM) Group’s general manager, Matthew Wright introduced the speakers and exhibitors.
Sam Cook, FPM’s HR Consultant, was in attendance throughout the event, helping managers with their employment and HR issues and queries. Sam's extensive experience dealing with a wide range of HR issues on a day-to-day basis makes him a popular addition to the roadshow team.
Training business manager, Kate Hodkinson and practice manager adviser, Gerry Devine were also on hand again to offer tips on CQC inspections and ‘How to be Outstanding’.
Kate re-iterated that the percentage of inadequate practices are low, ‘most practices are doing a good job.’
Gerry Devine covered different areas the CQC inspect on and how to get outstanding in these areas. The HR Adviser stressed the importance of teamwork and pre-planning, “preparation is the key to tackling your CQC inspection,” he added.
After an interactive exercise, where managers swapped their stories and tips on outstanding service, it was time for delegates to reflect on their learning over lunch.
One practice manager commented, “I left with a list of 38 actions despite thinking I was well prepared.”
Post lunch presentations covered the importance of training and provided attendees with a training matrix to help simplify things, followed by Matthew Wright showcasing a sneak peek of the new members' area of the First Practice Management website and advising managers how to get the most out of their memberships.
After the success of our ‘Things PMs Never Say’ series, we offered delegates a chance to contribute with the best entry winning a prize.
"The partners and doctors are always so keen to be involved"
