Workshop Objective

Accredited by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), this training programme has been specifically developed for experienced GP practice managers to develop their leadership skills and focus on advancing their working team within an effective organisation.

The programme is tailored for primary care organisations and will provide delegates with the skills and knowledge required to become an effective coach or mentor, giving them the opportunity to review and reflect upon their own skills and develop them in a systematic fashion.

These five day nationally accredited programme is delivered virtually.

For group bookings the minimum number of delegates is 8 and the maximum is 15.

Workshop Agenda

Module 1: Becoming an Effective Leader

The aim of the course is to enable experienced managers to develop their leadership skills so that they can develop their team within an effective organisation.

By the end of this one day workshop, delegates will understand the role of a leader and their own ability to perform this role as required by a practicing or potential middle manager.

The focus of the workshop will be on understanding leadership styles and leadership situations and how to adapt their own style and techniques to ensure positive outcomes and improve performance in others.

Day 1

  • Understanding the key responsibilities of a leader and the key difference between leadership and management
  • Examine a range of Leadership theories and Leadership styles including;

  • Explore how to evaluate the effectiveness of different leadership styles in the context of an individual’s role
  • Explore leadership in different situations and how to appropriately flex ones leadership style with different types of people

  • Explore ways of raising levels of emotional intelligence

Module 2: Understanding the skills principles and practice of effective management coaching and mentoring

The aim of this workshop is to enable participants to understanding;

  • The purpose of coaching and mentoring within an organisational context
  • The skills, behaviours, attitudes beliefs and values of an effective coach or mentor
  • The role of contracting and the process to effectively coach or mentor
  • The principles of effective coaching and mentoring
