Do Your Staff Have the Freedom to Speak Up?

With a number of high-profile safeguarding incidents hitting the headlines recently, there has never been a better time to upskill your staff on the importance of Whistleblowing and the Freedom to Speak up Guardian (FTSUG).

Here at Thornfields – primary care experts and a registered centre with the Institute of Leadership and Management – we’ve been delivering training on this topic since 2017, when the FTSUG was first introduced. Now we have refreshed our popular workshop on this topic.

But freedom to speak up and be a whistleblower is not only good for patient safety and staff wellbeing – it’s also something that inspectors and regulators look for across the UK. For example, in England the CQC assesses how practices foster a culture encouraging staff to safely and confidently raise concerns or suggestions. Training on this not only means staff have the understanding, but can evidence it in any subsequent inspections.

About Your Presenter Joanna Fox

Joanna is one of our highly skilled expert trainers, all of whom have graduated from our Thornfields Academy, helping us to guarantee consistently high standards of training. With an MSc in Patient Safety and Clinical Human Factors, Joanna is a volunteer on the NHSE programme of work for the PSIRF (Patient Safety Incident Response Framework) introduction in primary care. She is currently working on process and pilots with the NIH (National Institutes of Health). Joanna is an HR practitioner by background and a chartered fellow in Employment, Management, Healthcare and Human Factors & Ergonomics, and leads the BCMP (Business Continuity Management Program) across many ICBs at scale for general practice.
